For further verification the state department has sent both the
results from the 2006 study and the most recent tests to the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Both the reports have
been sent to China and the General Administration of Quality,
Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
China’s version of Food and Drug Administration, a NOAA spokeswoman stated.
State
officials closed the 135 acre Redondo Tract for harvesting geoducks
since Dec 20. The state also removed the tract from the current harvest
period which runs from 2 to 28 March. During the last season the state
authorities estimated a loss of $1 million because of the ban on
imports.
